This week's Segment will have to be Mayuri. Of all the captains, I find Mayuri to be the most creepy, eerie, and crazy of them all. A genius no doubt, Mayuri is always one step ahead - being able to prevent shadows from entering his premises. As you can see in the picture, he is prepared for things, even worst case scenarios. The Brawl is just beginning & Mayuri knows about the Vandenreich's invasion. Seen before the hiatus, Mayuri knew what he was doing and what could be done to ensure that he's safe, but everyone is pretty much screwed. What makes Mayuri a fascinating character isn't just his brilliance, but rather he's someone who you wouldn't want to F with big time. A eerie figure that somehow you want to be on your side. You want this mad scientist to be your ally, but at the same time you start to question whether he's a genius or he's just plain crazy. He could at one point look out for himself & Nemu, but could disregard the rest of his fellow Captains and insistently refer to them as "fools." He could be considered a clown, but then again - he is so smart, deductive, and ahead of the game - he's a clown worth not to F with. So Mayuri, despite being smart & eerie, stole the show in this chapter - showcasing how he knew and he was prepared for it. And now the brawl ensues with Mayuri without question - plotting his next move as he faces off against the Stern Ritter in the 12th division barracks.
