One of the most dynamic Affinities in all of Bleach is the bond between allies, rivals, & teammates ~ Ichigo & Renji. Before the two came to a truce on saving Rukia from execution, Renji blamed Ichigo for Rukia's imprisonment. Rukia's attachment to Rukia stems from the fact that she is the only person that Renji has ever regarded as being a part of his family. Growing up as a child with a ragtag team of lowlifes who steal in order to survive the tribulations of Seireitei's low neighborhood, Renji & Rukia were the last remaining members of the family that went on to pursue the role of becoming a Shinigami. Once Byakuya adopted Rukia into the Kuchiki Clan, Renji was left alone ~ desiring to once again face the very man who took away his family by becoming his underling in hopes to one day surpass him. Once Renji fought Ichigo in the Human World, it's pretty clear Renji was out to take back Rukia and do away with Ichigo. However, their second fight explicates the importance of roles ~ how far is someone willing to go? What ideologies keep them from pursuing each other? Is there some sort of middle ground? Well, that middle ground was met when Renji relied on Ichigo to save Rukia. From then on, Renji entrusts Ichigo as a friend, ally, & teammate as they together face villainous foes from Aizen Sousuke to Yhwach. Ichigo & Renji are much alike ~ bickering/argumentative, can often be displayed as delinquents, easy to trigger into a fight, and have a strong sense of what's right from wrong. Ichigo, being the leader of Team Ichigo, only sees Renji as a faithful friend & ally that'll fight beside him to do what is necessary to stop evil from taking over the World.
