One of, if not, the hardest scenes to watch is when Ulquiorra punctures a hole in Ichigo's heart and he "dies". To see the hero literally "die" is so upsetting that you can't help but root that he'll either come back stronger or be avenged one way or another. Well Ichigo does come back alive and...is as monstrous as ever. He almost demolished Ulquiorra, but unfortunately that was the Hollow within him taking over. Ichigo is saddened that he couldn't deliver the finishing blow to Ulquiorra and his life concludes when he's no longer feared by Orihime. The scene showcases just how strong and monstrous Ichigo has become. Whenever on the brink of death, Ichigo always survives because, well, he's the main character. Ichigo has a lot on his plate ~ saving Karakura town, saving the Soul Society, protecting his friends & family, & overcoming the Hollow within him that only craves for havoc. Ulquiorra's "killing" of Ichigo was illustrating that Ichigo can't really die ~ a Quincy/Shinigami/Hollow being that has been on the brink of death and has grown stronger every time. So when Ulquiorra pierces Ichigo's heart, this became a reminder that you can't really f*ck with Ichigo. Ichigo has fought various opponents: Ikkaku, Renji, Kenpachi, Byakuya, Grimmjow, Nnoitra (briefly), and many more ~ Ichigo isn't a ordinary being and that's why there's so much focus surrounding his origins ~ his upbringing & parents' meeting are what made him who he is today ~ a total bad@$$.
