Throwback #12 - Cool vs. Calm (Chad vs. Shunsui)
Remember this fight? In the rescue arc, Chad's first and I believe 2nd opponent was Captain of the 8th Division, Captain Shunsui Kyoraku. Chad easily defeated 3rd seat Tatsufusa Enoji, but Kyoraku was worlds apart from Chad. Despite being a human, Kyoraku was impressed with Chad's newfound abilities and offered that he leave before anything gets serious. However, Chad's obligation to Ichigo's cause is what fueled Chad to keep on fighting. It didn't take very long for the Captain to realize Chad's refusal to comply and so they fought. Chad, using his powers against a Shinigami for the first time, was unaware of how strong a Captain-level Shinigami was and as a result, was gravely wounded and sent to a holding cell. Kyoraku suspects that Chad could've been one of the Ryoka responsible for Aizen's murder, but he highly doubts that someone of Chad's level could possibly be the one, there had to be others. So Kyoraku, wanting to settle things peacefully, defeated Chad without much of a sweat. Though Nanao, Shunsui's lieutenant, wanted to finish Chad off, the Captain insists that he be sent to a holding cell, wanting to prevent any more bloodshed. Kyoraku slashes Chad's across the chest with his twin blades and Chad, dashing towards Shunsui with his fist charging up, reminiscing about his promise to Ichigo about having his back. Here are some other photos of their fight:
