Prior to Byakuya becoming 6th Division Captain & Head of the Kuchiki Clan, Yoruichi, the 2nd Division Captain prior to the storyline, was often teasing him. Byakuya was a hothead and lost his temper whenever the playful Yoruichi came about. However, years passed and Byakuya, being head of the Kuchiki house & being a Captain-class Shinigami, acts dignified, noble, and professionally. So this fated meeting should come to no surprise as Yoruichi comments that Byakuya has grown and isn't as playful or rash as he once was in the past. Yoruichi's Shunpo is still incredibly legendary amongst the Shinigami, but so has Byakuya's. However, Byakuya wasn't able to catch up to Yoruichi's speed as she sped off with Ichigo to train him in achieving Bankai. In the years they've known each or how one has matured, it doesn't change the fact that Yoruichi's Shunpo is still faster than Byakuya's.
