Remember Mask De Masculine? That stupid-@$$ wrestling mothaf*cka got his @$$ handed to him by Renji and I couldn't be happier. The problem, however, was that the focus of several chapters was around Masculine's character and I honestly didn't give two sh*ts about him. Pepe, the sternritter "L," is another character whose presence is beginning to spawn more than 2 chapters and I'm already not giving a sh*t about his fight w/Byakuya. Now why is that? Is it because Masculine & Pepe are weaklings? No, you saw what they're capable of and I wouldn't want to f*ck around with them. However, the problem, in my opinion, is that these 2 characters don't appeal to me. Their powers are cliche. Not I'm not saying that everyone's power in Bleach is original, but think about it for a second. Masculine's power is driven by the cheers of his one fan whereas with Pepe, his power is driven by ultimately justifying love is the essence of anything and thus can gain sovereignty over anything or anyone. You want to know what Pepe's power reminds me of? If you recall the 7th Espada, Zommari, his power was possessing the ability to gain sovereignty over anything. And what was his aspect of Death ~ Intoxication. What's Pepe's power? Intoxicate anything and anyone by the power of his Love. See how I came to that conclusion? The difference between Zommari and Pepe is that Zommari was more of an interesting character ~ giving him a reason to kill Byakuya over the loss of the 9th Espada. With Pepe, he'll just about attack anyone out of Love. So when Hisagi was taken down by Byakuya, Pepe continued justifying Love is everything and thus goes on to explicate that Love can be found in conflict while it also can be saddening too. Pepe's "Love" was able to strike a hit against Byakuya w/a Quincy's trademark bow & arrow, but not long after a Zombified Kensei & Rose show up out of nowhere. Pepe also explains that he didn't need to steal anyone's Bankai considering his power of "Love" allows him to gain sovereignty over its heart. The one disturbing thing in this chapter is seeing a half-naked fat-@$$ claiming that if someone has a problem accepting his love, then there'll be a ugly-@$$ bald guy coming your way announcing that "you better fall in love with me." And that ends the chapter.
So did I hate this chapter? No, I don't really hate on chapters. I can hate specific components, but never downright say the chapter was all bad. This week's chapter once again is a set-up and as much as I talked sh*t about Pepe, the one thing that I want to know is ~ why the f*ck are a zombified Kensei & Rose appear out of nowhere? Are they going to fight Byakuya? If that's true, then that's an even more interesting fight than against Pepe. Sorry Pepe, but you don't appeal to me and I'll never love you. Getting half-naked doesn't solve anything ~ it just makes me want to puke. I'll give this week's chapter the same grade I gave whenever Mask De Masculine was involved ~ Grade: C.
