Throwback #84 - Loyalties are tested (Attack of the Covers Part 9)

A very renowned cover back in the early 100 chapters was we saw various Shinigami of the Gotei 13 duking it out. During the Rescue arc, Team Ichigo were considered Ryoka (or intruders) and were deemed dangerous to the Soul  Society. However, certain divisions (primarily the 11th, 8th, & 13th divisions) ended up going against their own peers because they saw Ichigo as a potential ally/friend rather than a posable threat/enemy. In rescuing Rukia, Ukitake (Rukia's superior) didn't have any qualms about the idea and even went further into sabotaging the execution. 8th division (at the time) Shunsui Kyoraku went along with Ukitake whereas Kenpachi merely enjoyed fighting Ichigo so much that everyone NOT Ichigo was deemed an enemy to him regardless of they're Captain-class or not. In the picture, we see Komamura, Tosen, Byakuya, Tetsuzaemon, & Hisagi about to duke it out against Kenpachi, Renji, Yumichika, & Ikkaku. Loyalties were tested, hearts wavered, and swords were drawn. I will admit this cover page from Chapter 140 is one of my favorite(s). It illustrates how despite preserving the peace, some will go against it in order to bring about a compromise.
