One of the very first Shinigami Ichigo met in the Soul Society upon rescuing Rukia was a man named Hanataro Yamada, 7th seat of the 4th division under former Captain Retsu Unohana (later revealed to be Yachiru Unohana). Ichigo, as seen in the gif, is comedically bullying Hanataro - much like a jock & nerd or perhaps as bickering siblings. At first, Hanataro was used as bait and as a hostage, but Ichigo soon figured out that Hanataro would never hurt a fly - a pacifist that was suckered into being Ichigo's hostage now turned friend and ally. Hanataro cares deeply for Rukia and it pains him to see her being sentenced. As if all hope is lost, Ichigo arrives and tells him that he and his team are going to rescue Rukia...giving Hanataro a glimmer of hope that they are the ones that can truly accomplish such a task. After their fated meeting, failed attempt as bait/hostage, and overall siding with the Ryoka in aiding Rukia's rescue, Hanataro remains a close ally to Team Ichigo. Hanataro was the one of few people (aside from Orihime & Yoruichi) who healed him when sustaining injuries ~ a sign of respect, friendship, and that, despite initially being strangers ~ are now friends.
