After the loss of their mother, Ichigo finds himself distraught, believing he is the one responsible for having caused her death. However, it was revealed that a Hollow by the name Grand Fisher was the one responsible for killing Ichigo's mother. Ichigo could never bring himself to forget what had happened in the past, but upon visiting his deceased mother's tombstone, Ichigo's Dad, Isshin Kurosaki reassures his son that if he had blamed Ichigo for their mother's death, she wouldn't forgive him. On the anniversary of their mother's death, Isshin is seen smoking a cigarette because it is a reminder of the first compliment he ever received from her. This brings us to one of the moments in Bleach where we see a different side to Isshin, seen telling his son not to burden himself anymore with their mother's death. The very woman that Isshin fell in love with risked everything in order for Ichigo to be safe and it's because of this that Ichigo gets a different insight on life ~ the willingness to protect others and the transition of ordinary life into that of a Substitute Shinigami. Isshin.
