Watchlist #47 - Monster Musume (First Impressions)

Next to the To-Love-Ru series, I think Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou takes the cake as my 2nd favorite Harem series. Back in the day, it was definitely Tenchi Muyo, but times have changed - characters have grown up, situations have become much more perverse, & protagonists have, unfortunately, are indecisive or oblivious. For 3 years, I've been reading/skimming through the Monster Musume Manga written by Okayado, published by Tokuma Shoten, & is currently ongoing (2012-present w/new chapter released once per month). So it wouldn't be long before an Anime adaptation was in the works and guess what, it's just as awesome as the Manga. Aiming for 12 episodes, Monster Musume premiered July 7, 2015 and is officially licensed by Sentai Filmworks (that means the Dubbing is 50/50 f*cked). I've been watching it on Crunchyroll every Tuesday and, do I suggest it or not? IF you haven't guessed it, I'm a big fan of the series, but I will admit that fitting it in a 12-episode format seems rather rushed & there's so much more that the show could've done. However, I digress - what's the Anime/Manga about? Well, in a world where Humans & Unworldly creatures coexist, a Interspecies Cultural Exchange Act was made where the Unworldly creatures can coexist within Human society so long as they have a host - Hijinks are highly likely to ensue. Meet Kimihito Kurusu, a very "lucky" man who just so happens to be hosting: a lamia, a harpy, a centaur, a slime, a mermaid, a spider, & a dullahan (headless rider). So what happens to Kimihito's life when he's living with 7 creatures that all want his love & affection ~ Hijinks. This guy is just as unlucky Rito Yuuki from To-Love-Ru and, later on, I'll be pitting To-Love-Ru & Monster Musume together titled: To Love Monster (TLM). Overall, this show highlights this teenager's ongoing battle to balance out his ordinary life & the life he has with 7 beautiful creatures. Ecchi, Harem, Romance, & Comedy ensues as this guy is literally living on the edge. As I've said above, as much as I love this Anime/Manga, the adaptation feels rushed and it felt as if it just started. I sincerely hope there's a season 2 because I don't think I'm the only one who loves Monster Musume. Yes it's cliche and nothing's really new or grand about this, but by God ~ I just love the situations Kimihito gets himself into and the idea of creatures falling for him, though done before, is handled like any other Harem. Guess I have a soft spot for Harem(s) which brings me to next week's Food For Thought: When does a Harem become stale? Anyways, if any of you are a fan of Harem, Ecchi, & Monster Girls ~ check it out. If not, more power to you. For me, it's a definite watch, just wished it wasn't ending anytime soon.
