Elder Toguro vs. Yachiru Kusajishi (The Playful Sidekicks on Back)

VS.

Before we get to the anticipated Matchup on Wednesday between Younger Toguro & Kenpachi Zaraki, I wanted to talk about the two people who are always seen on Toguro & Kenpachi's backs - Elder Toguro & Yachiru Kusajishi. As seen in the picture, Elder Toguro & Yachiru are the right hand man/right hand woman of Team Toguro & of the 11th Division and are 2nd strongest next to them. Both are playful individuals, thirsty for battle and aren't to be underestimated by any means. One is an adult and the other a child, but their upbringing is quite twisted to say the least. Without further ado, let's start off Monday with Elder Toguro from YYH and Yachiru Kusajishi from Bleach by comparing the following: History, Role in Story, Relationship to Toguro/Kenpachi, Powers/Abilities, & Fight Record.

History (Elder Toguro)
Much like his younger brother, Elder Toguro was once a human 50 years ago. He, alongside his brother and Genkai, built a dojo together where they trained pupils. However, everything changed when the Demon Kairen broke into the Dojo and massacred every Pupil. This angered the Toguro brothers to no end, but they stood no match against this formidable demon. However, this changed when the Toguro brothers participated in the Dark Tournament, defeated the demon Kairen, and wished to be made demons so that they'll never age & they'd continue to train. Sometime after this, the Toguro brothers defeated Karasu & Bui (them later joining) and were under Sakyo's care.

History (Yachiru Kusajishi)
A long time ago, Yachiru met Kenpachi in one of the worst parts of Rukongai. She was first introduced as a nameless child, born in 79th district: Kusajishi. Kenpachi named her after the very person he came to respect: Yachiru. Yachiru was fascinated with the sight of blood as her fated meeting with Kenpachi was met with a mountain of corpses. Despite being a fragile little child, she wasn't afraid of blood, Kenpachi, or his sword. Ever since then, she joined Kenpachi in the Gotei 13 and became lieutenant of the 11th division under his mantle.

Role in YYH ~ Elder Toguro
Elder Toguro, alongside his brother, are part of the renowned Team Toguro during the Dark Tournament Saga. Before that, however, the Toguro brothers were hired by Gonzo Tarukane to make Yukina, an ice apparition, to cry because her tears are morphed into gem stones. After Yusuke & Kuwabara fought against the Triad, the Toguro Brothers fought and intentionally lost to the duo to make room for the Dark Tournament where Yusuke & Younger Toguro would have their bout. During the Dark Tournament, Team Toguro fought Team Gorenja and Elder Toguro easily killed 3/5 of its members. Team Toguro would finally meet their demise at the hands of Team Urameshi as Kuwabara dealt a devastating blow against Elder Toguro. However, before Yusuke & Younger Toguro fought, Elder Toguro was discarded by his own brother who considers him "Dead." It didn't take long before Elder Toguro was taken in by Shinbou Sensui and was eaten by Gourmet to have a new body to recuperate in. He eventually met his end by Kurama, who plunged him in the Sinning Tree, a hell of hallucinations that goes on forever.

Role in Bleach ~ Yachiru Kusajishi
Yachiru was first introduced when Ichigo was just about to fight Kenpachi Zaraki. As she watched her Captain & the Ryoka fight, she soon came to respect Ichigo's strength and believed he is the only one who can give a hell of a fight to her Captain. Sometime after Ichigo's recuperation, she joins her Captain in aiding Ichigo's team against the various Captains & Lieutenants that are after them. She is later seen watching Kenpachi fight against 5th Espada, Nnoitra Gilga. Yachiru watches in awe as her Captain is having the time of his life fighting Nnoitra, but at the same time worries because Nnoitra was empowering Kenpachi bit by bit. In the end Kenpachi ends up defeating the 5th Espada and Yachiru is greatly concerned in treating her Captain's wounds. Much much later, Yachiru is seen fighting against Guenael Lee in the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc where she finally unsheathes her Zanpaktou revealing its ability - Sanpo Kenju

Younger & Elder Toguro
The Toguro brothers, who were once human, were men of honor who dedicated themselves to martial arts until Kairen changed their fates and way of living. Since they're brothers, they genuinely care for one another, either in human or demon form. However, since their transformation from human to demon, they became twisted, corrupted, and sadistic in bringing an end to those who oppose them. Elder Toguro was always his brother's sword and shield up until Elder Toguro's loss by Kuwabara. Younger Toguro lost all respect for his brother and punched him away from the Tournament.

Kenpachi & Yachiru
Yachiru is the first person who quickly became attached to Kenpachi and since then, the two are inseparable. You could say that Yachiru is Kenpachi's daughter since Yachiru is a father-figure to her since he took her in when she was just a little child who didn't know any better. They genuinely care for one another and Yachiru is always seen on Kenpachi's back regardless of who they are fighting. Yachiru is Kenpachi's #1 supporter and she will always be there to boost up Kenpachi's confidence in his fights. Some examples include Kenpachi's fight w/Ichigo & Nnoitra - Yachiru was always the spectator and cheering for Kenpachi to give it his all and, importantly, to have a hell of a time.

Powers/Abilities ~ Elder Toguro
Elder Toguro was once a human, but requested to be turned into a demon shapeshifter. By manipulating the anatomy and physiology of his body, he ca move about his organs freely so that anything his opponents hit isn't vital or lethal. He can elongate his fingers to pierce his opponents as well as being able to transform upon will (EX: turning into a shield or sword). Upon being eaten by Gourmet, Elder Toguro inhabited his body and, much like a parasite, took possession. Since then, he has the ability to use telepathy & absorb one's power (in the Chapter Black Saga). Elder Toguro is the longest living antagonist in YYH, being introduced at the very end of the Spirit Detective Saga up until the Chapter Black Saga.

Powers/Abilities ~ Yachiru Kusajishi
Yachiru, being a lieutenant level Shinigami, has great spiritual power despite her age and playful and carefree nature. As noted when first meeting Ichigo, Yachiru is incredibly agile, being able to softly land on Ichigo's shoulder without him noticing at first. As Yachiru is a kid, she utilizes her so-called infiltration expertise when it comes to mischief. Another thing that surprises me about Yachiru is her strength when shown carrying Kenpachi on her shoulders after his loss against Ichigo. And recently, Yachiru showcases her Zanpaktou abilities - Sanpo Kenju (Three-Step Sword Beasts). When releashing her Zanpaktou, two creatures manifest behind her and much like copying, the beasts mimic Yachiru's every attack so that one precedes after another. This means that there's a high probability that Yachiru can inflict damage on her opponents since her attack is 3x upon her Zanpaktou's release.

Fight Record ~ Elder Toguro
Elder Toguro has had a few fights. His record is as follows:

Elder Toguro w/Team Toguro vs. Team Gorenja - Win
Elder Toguro vs. Kuwabara - Loss
Elder Toguro (in Gourmet's body) vs. Kurama - Loss

Fight Record ~ Yachiru Kusajishi
Yachiru had her first fight recently. Her record is as follows:

Yachiru Kusajishi vs. Guenael Lee - Unconfirmed (in progress)

Verdict
And the winner is...
Yachiru, despite being small, is quite a formidable opponent. She is a Lieutenant level Shinigami and not many would come to question if she was a threat or not. Well, after seeing her Zanpaktou abilities in action for the first time last chapter, I can safely say Yachiru kicks a lot of butt and the fact that she's been holding this back from the audience - it's safe to assume that Yachiru is a special little girl. For Elder Toguro, his abilities didn't really impress me and he lost way way way too easily to Kuwabara's Sprit Fly Swatter. Yachiru offers variety and is a more fun character. For Elder Toguro, his backstory was pretty tragic, but his demonic transformation messed up his way of thinking - he grew cocky, overconfident, and abandoned honor. Yachiru's upbringing is still a mystery and when a character has not much development - it's interesting to see how she'll turn out and where she'll go. A mysterious character with little development at times can be interesting than a fleshed-out character who you know everything about. Yachiru always has a smile on her face regardless of the situation and, in my opinion, can wipe the floor with Elder Toguro by using Sanpo Kenju to attack him 3x. Despite Yachiru only showcasing her abilities last chapter, she offers a more interesting power than Elder Toguro. This victory goes to the ever-so adorable, lovable, and carefree Lieutenant of the 11th Division - Yachiru Kusajishi.
