Bleach Kombat Round 8: Reptile vs. Sajin Komamura (Geico Gecko vs. Balto)

VS.

Awwwwwww Shiet, The Big Bad Wolf in Fairy Tales is going up against The Lizard, Spiderman's enemy. A battle of brave wolves vs. reptiles that save on auto insurance ~ this ought to be an exciting Matchup. Welcome to another BK Round where this week, we put Canines and Reptiles together to bring you Reptile from MK (that's such a original name you got their bruh) vs. Captain Sajin Komamura of the 7th Division from Bleach. Who'll come out on top? Whose bound to eat the other? Whose abilities surpass the other ~ acid spits or towering behemoths in armor with a big-@$$ sword? Without further ado, let us start off this week on the right foot. As of last week (July 18), Bleach led 5-2 against MK. Can MK catch up? With MechG giving the verdict today AND Wednesday, it's only a matter of time if MK can match its Bleach characters of if Bleach will remain on top. The following (as usual) will be incorporated in our Round: Backstory/Role in Story, Powers/Abilities, & The Verdict (By MechG). Let's jam!

Backstory/Role in Story (Sajin Komamura)
Sometime before he joined the Gotei 13, he left his family because he felt ashamed  of living within the shadows. It is unknown where his place of birth was, but then Head Captain of the Gotei 13, Captain Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto, gave Sajin a opportunity to join the Gotei 13 despite him not being human. There, he made his first friend & future 9th Division Captain, Kaname Tosen. Despite Tosen's blindness, he still recognized Komamura's presence and the two got along quite well ~ the first time Komamura wasn't seen as an outcast, but rather as an individual like everyone else. It was during this time where Tosen introduced Komamura to what would be their greatest adversary and then Lieutenant of the 5th Division, Aizen Sousuke.

Komamura is first introduced in the Rescue arc where the Ryoka (Ichigo, Orihime, Uryu, Chad, & Ganju) are out to save Rukia from execution unbeknownst to them of an even greater threat. He is first seen in the Captain's meeting on dealing with the Ryoka whether Dead or Alive, but doesn't have any action up until he & Tosen are forced to fight the formidable, deadly, and dangerous Captain of the 11th Division ~ Kenpachi Zaraki. After Tosen's loss, Komamura blocked Kenpachi's strike and, for the first time in a long time, revealed who he truly was ~ A wolf. Angry at his friend's loss and wanting to shut up Kenpachi for being too cocky and feeble-minded, Komamura introduced his Bankai to him only to be interrupted by Rukia's execution that was about to take place. During the time that Rukia was rescued ands Aizen's revelation of wanting the Hogyoku & was solely responsible for the murder of The Central 46, Komamura found out about Tosen's defection and went forth angrily to try and thwart their plans. Unfortunately, Komamura easily lost to Aizen's Kido and was unable to convince Tosen, his longtime friend, that his path towards Justice isn't justifiable by any means and that'll it lead to only more senseless violence. Sometime after Aizen assembles his army of Arrancar(s), Komamura reappears alongside the 2nd, 8th, 10th, & 13th divisions to thwart Aizen's strongest Espada ~ Starrk, Baraggan, & Harribel in Fake Karakura Town. It is during this conflict that Komamura fights and easily defeats Baraggan's Fraccion, Choe Neng Poww, and allies himself with the unknown Visored to once and for all finish off Aizen & his remaining forces. Komamura, alongside Hisagi, was forced to fight his old friend Tosen (ended in their victory) where it is finally revealed that Tosen could, for the first time, see what his friend looked like only to die shortly afterwards. Angry that his old friend's path was swayed by Aizen, Komamura attempts to once again try to stop Aizen, but is easily defeated again, After Aizen's imprisonment, a new threat called the Wandenreich invade the Soul Society and Komamura is one of the first Captains to encounter Sternritter E, Bambietta Basterbine, who steals his Bankai. Learning of his mentor's (Captain Yamamoto) death by Yhwach, Komamura is deeply saddened, but knows that being shaken by this won't solve the conflict and the fight must continue with/without Bankai. It is during his training that Komamura visits his Grandfather, who isn't too pleased to see him. It is revealed that his Grandfather taught him a skill that enables Komamura to be temporarily human and be incapable of being killed for a given period of time. Komamura uses this and easily defeats Bambietta. Drained from the brief period of humanization, Komamura is picked up by his Lieutenant, Iba, and they continue to purse and thwart the impeding threat to the Gotei 13.

Backstory/Role in Story (Reptile)
Reptile’s story didn’t fully develop until MKs 3-4, where he belonged to an extinct race called the Saurians. The Saurians at first originated from Earthrealm until the war between Shinnok and the Elder Gods almost brought them to mass extinction, forcing them to migrate to the realm of Zaterra in hopes to rebuild their once thriving civilization. The realm was eventually conquered by Outworld and the Saurians went extinct and Reptile was one of the only survivors of the race with Khameleon being the 2nd survivor. Reptile eventually served under Shao Kahn’s rule and served as Shang Tsung’s right hand spectator, surveying the Kombatants in the MK tournament held on Shang Tsung’s island. After Shao Kahn’s defeat during the invasion of Earthrealm, Reptile was tried in Edenia for his involvment in Earthrealm’s near genocide and was banished to the Netherrealm. Reptile went on to serve Shinnok, hoping that the Fallen Elder God is merciful enough to resurrect his once lost race, but since Shinnok’s defeat, Reptile came up short again to see his race come back. By the time Deadly Alliance happened, Reptile became a full-fledged, you know, reptile (no pun intended), able to no longer disguise himself as a human. Reptile came across the vampiress Nitara while being under Shao Kahn’s orders to summon Shang Tsung. Nitara revealed Reptile’s origins and gave him the Kirehashi blade, a sword that is a fragment of the Saurian civilization. Nitara distracting Reptile gave Quan Chi and Shang Tsung time to kill off Shao Kahn and the vampiress used Reptile as means to free her people and her realm from Outworld. The vampiress also tricked him to do battle with the Lin Kuei cyborg, Cyrax as means to help Nitara capture the portal sphere. Reptile entered the Lava Chamber only to be tricked once more as his body becomes a vessel of the Dragon King, Onaga after being exposed from a beam of light from a hatched dragon egg, fulfilling the Dragon King’s prophesized return. When Shujinko delivered one last blow to Onaga, Reptile’s body was restored to his normal, Saurian form. He battled the half-god Taven and later joined the final battle in Armageddon.

Powers/Abilities (Sajin Komamura)
Being  a Captain-class Shinigami, Captain Sajin Komamura possesses incredible spiritual pressure, is masterful is swordsmanship, can endure a lot more blows than usual, and having enhances reflexes and senses because he is a wolf. However, his true power comes from his Bankai ~ Kokujo Tengen Myo'o (Divine Retribution, Black Hopes of Ruination in Viz translation) where a giant armor-like Samurai mimics Komamura's moves and, like a puppet, will enable the action that Komamura takes. By striking downward, the giant-like puppet was able to subdue Choe Neng Poww with one slash. However, the downside to this is if the Giant-Armored Samurai puppet is injured, it inflicts injury to both it and Komamura since they are connected. However, when the Giant-Armored Samurai removes its Armor, it's a body of pure reiatsu and, like Komamura after humanization, is unable to die. Komamura's humanization allows him to be immortal for a brief period of time because he has thrown away his life by removing his heart.

Powers/Abilities (Reptile)
In terms of powers and abilities, Reptile was given combined powers of Sub-Zero and Scorpion in his debut as a secret character in MK1. In MK2, he started receiving his own powers, such as spitting out saliva that consists of acidic fluids enough to easily burn through steel. Other abilities include that Reptile is able to fire homing energy blasts that when hit, it propels the opponent to come towards Reptile and his other ability is to render himself invisible, making Reptile more deadly as his opponents couldn’t see him thoroughly. It is said that when Saurians lose their human-like disguise, they tend to be more primal and attack anyone in its way and since Reptile is a Saurian, he is more feral with that trait. His notable fatalities are the Tasty Meal (MK2), which Reptile reveals his reptilian head and sticks his tongue out, eating his opponent from head to toe and the Acid Puke (UMK3) where Reptile drenches his opponent in his acidic saliva, turning the opponent into complete skeleton. As mentioned, his weapon of choice is the Kirehashi blade and his fighting styles are Hun Gar (Deadly Alliance), Crab (Deadly Alliance), and Pao Chui (Armageddon).

Verdict (By MechG)
And the winner is...
After quickly evaluating the two, it’s obvious that are able to disguise themselves as humans despite their animal-like upbringings and they share parallel sides to how they view themselves in their animal form and they are very loyal to their masters with Komamura to Captain Yamamoto and Reptile to Shao Kahn, then later Shinnok so their storylines are like mirror images with Komamura the more good side and Reptile the more evil side. However in terms of powers/abilities, I give this overall matchup to Komamura overall. Although I like Reptile’s reptilian form and his fatalities, but it’s obvious his overall powers and abilities are far behind Komamura’s. Let me say this, Komamura’s bankai is HUGE! It’s going to take more than Reptile’s mere Acid Spit to rip through the armor of Komamura’s bankai. Even though Reptile has the ability to make himself invisible, Komamura has enhanced senses due to his animal state and I’ll bet he can sense Reptile a mile away before Reptile is able to surprise him from behind. Besides, Reptile has had more bad luck in his storyline than Komamura. Though Reptile has undying loyalty to Kahn and Shinnok, they have no time to resurrect Reptile’s fallen Saurian race. What good is it of serving them knowing they would only use their power for themselves? Not to mention, Reptile can be easily gullible as displayed in his segments with Nitara in the later MK games. Another thing that stands out to me on giving Komamura this matchup is his durability. He got his @$$ kicked twice by Aizen, arguably the most powerful antagonist in Bleach and he’s able to get back up and fight despite being severely damaged. With Reptile, if he gets his @$$ kicked, he’s done, he’s demoralized. KOMAMURA WINS, FLAWLESS VICTORY.
