Premiering on Toonami with a maximum episode list of 6, this show, from the get-go, was just a roller coaster ride of fun & WTF*ckery. I can't honestly describe the show in detail, but here's the cliffnote version. A dude with got hit by a guitar suddenly has sh*t coming out from his forehead and it's up to a surprisingly hot alien girl (who was responsible for hitting the dude) to stop the crap that spurs from the dude's forehead. Also, there's a robot, the dude's weird @$$ family, a dude with weird-@$$ eyebrows, and a high school chainsmoker who likes naming things after the main dude. Alright, did you get all that? In all seriousness, it's easy to digest Anime so long as it keeps you entertained, but the plot, in my opinion, was just all over the place and sporadic that I believe I enjoyed the random factor rather than thoroughly following what was going on. I mean yeah it made me laugh, say WTF (a lot), and is a nostalgic Anime, but the fact of the matter is: Randomness = Comedy. Sometimes that formula works and other times it doesn't. FLCL is the shortest Anime I've ever watched and it's become such a cult hit that I kind of find it hard to believe anyone recite the show inside and outside ~ outlining detail by detail the plot as well as explicate it's symbolism. The nature of human logic doesn't exist in the Human world, but rather contrary to popular belief ~ the most interesting things that happen don't always have to be in reality. In fiction, stories are well-told, fostered, and given gravitas to the audience as to why it's given that much interest. FLCL is no exception as it glued me in from scene to scene despite not having followed the outline of the story and its content. It's comedic timing, random factor, and wacky atmosphere just set the standard for me. I have yet to purchase this Anime, but I can guarantee you all ~ you can finish it in a day. Perhaps it's a show you have to watch multiple times in order to get it or maybe once and be labeled a smartass (or just having paid more attention than I have). For me, I watch it for the pure enjoyment that it brought me as a kid ~ random nostalgia w/alien chicks, robots, guitars, and basking in the days of fictional Anime youth where anything and everything can happen.
I hope you enjoyed his Legacy post. Look forward to Legacy posts every Thursday. Until then, you all stay classy. WBCR will be posted tomorrow alongside Throwback.
